2024 Uganda Furniture
The Luwero School has 1,238 students including 124 with special needs. The school has 30 dedicated teaching staff. They were in dire need of desks with many students having to sit on the floor. This project funded 30 desk/bench combinations, each will sit at least 5 students so 150+ students will benefit.

2024 Multiple Countries Save a Girl April
In April, 2024, TGUP's made and distributed a total of 1,076 kits to girls in two countries. Most schools in Africa have been closed for their break after exams. In Cameroon, 276 girls at the Dibanda Secondary School received kits. In Uganda, girls at 7 Primary Schools and 2 Secondary Schools received a total of 829 kits.

2024 Uganda Water Delivery
TGUP is replacing the boys' latrines for the 186 boys (the ones for the girls have already been replaced). This separate project is providing 10,000 liters of water for the construction of the latrines as well as for use by the school. The students were having to fetch water 3km away which interrupted their class time.

2024 Cameroon Desks, Chairs, Tables
Muea Primary School is attended by very poor village children aged 4-12 years, many of whom are orphans, girls, and internally displaced children. The school has over 662 students, of which 384 girls and 278 boys. They were in dire need of desks, chairs, and tables with many sitting on the floor due to the lack of furniture.

2024 Uganda Incinerator
In addition to providing a safe birthing center, the NSAWO Medical Clinic provides health care services for maleria, typhoid, pnemonia, hypertension, etc. They see an average of 600 patients per month and needed a safe way to dispose of medical waste. This project provided funding for a brick chimney medical incinerator.

2024 Cameroon Drainage and Doors
The recent refurbishment of the classroom building for the Ndongo Primary School included new walls, windows, supports, and flooring. While the building was being redone, new drainage was installed to prevent water from flowing into the classrooms. This project also funded a new locking iron door for the building.

2024 Cameroon Classroom Supplies
TGUP just finished the refurbishment of a classroom block at Ndongo Primary that included new walls, windows, supports, and flooring. Previously, TGUP had replaced the roof on this building. This project now provided new chalkboards, drinking buckets, cups, and trash cans. The students now have a safe environment for learning.

2024 Cameroon Refurbishment
The community school of Ndongo has 895 children in 12 grades. Last year, TGUP replaced the roof on one of the bulidings that had been torn off by a major tropical storm. This project now refurbished the rest of the structure including new walls, supports, flooring, & windows. The old walls were falling apart and leaking.

2024 Guatemala Toilets
San Luis Frontera is a community school located in Guatemala right near the border of Mexico. The school has 120 students and 10 teachers. The recently received support to build a much-needed classroom. Now, this project replaced the old and no longer functioning toilets with two toilets, piping, drainage, and septic pit.

2024 Kenya Lab Stools and Tables
After doing a complete renovation of the science lab at the Githage Secondary School, TGUP's Science Lab in a Box was funded. This allows the students going in to their national exams to have the necessary equipment to properly conduct experiments. This additional project now funded 50 lab stools and 4 tables.

2024 Multiple Countries Save a Girl March
In March, a total of 1,211 Save a Girl kits were donated, free of charge, to girls in 11 different schools in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. All of these kits were made locally in TGUP sponsored sewing centers. Education on the kit use and care, along with self defense and health, is also provided during each distribution of kits.

2024 Uganda Access Road
An access road to the new Kangulumira school site had to be created. This involved clearing trees and bushes, laying murram (rock) and then compacting the road. The access road is approximately 300 feet long off the main road. The local community contributed labor so the total cost was only $665.

2024 Uganda Latrines Refurbishment
Kangulumira Parents' School is a locally owned school with 150 students. They tried to build latrines but did not have the resources required. This project refubished the existing structure with new walls, roofing, flooring and doors. Now, the school, staff, and community of 500+ people have access to safe, hygienic latrines.

2024 Uganda LED Lights
Ssaku Secondary School has 529 students and 41 teachers. Recently, TGUP funded a Science Lab in a Box so they now have everything they need to do experiments in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The lab only had two small lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling. This project installed LED lights so they have sufficient lighting.

2024 Guatemala Playground
The Nuevo San Jose community school provides education to 187 students in three different levels: preschool (28), primary (106) and middle school (53). There are 7 teachers. The school did not have any play equipment. This project hired local craftsmen to build and install 1 slide, 1 monkey bar, and 1 swingset with 4 swings.

2024 Nepal Science Lab in a Box
Pinnacle Scholars Academy has nursery school to grade 10, with 850 students, 42 teachers, and 35 support staff. They have a science lab but it was not sufficiently furnished with the necessary supplies and equipment for the students to do the curriculum based required experiments. The school paid 35% of the cost of the SLaB.

2024 Nepal Math Lab
Halchowk Secondary School has a total of 13 rooms, one hall, and two toilets (one for boys, one for girls). There are 1266 students, 20 teachers, and 3 general staff members. The Principal of this school is a woman and is trying her best to improve the school. This math lab provided 51 different math-related products.

2024 Cameroon Latrines
Bomaka Primary School, located in the Southwest region of Cameroon, has 487 students. The school's latrines were full and abandoned. This project built new latrines to be shared with all the students and staff, including 5 stalls and one urinal. The community contributed $1,000 worth of labor to dig the pit, which is 16' deep.

2024 Cameroon School Supplies
Bomaka Primary School has 487 students but many did not have the required school supplies to do their homework. Many went without or had to share the basics: pens, pencils, rulers, exercise books, etc. This project funded supplies so every student will have what they need, which will improve attendance and performance.

2024 Cameroon Classroom Furniture
In addition to funding new latrines and school supplies for the 487 students at Bomaka Primary School, TGUP also funded 30 new desks, 4 large tables, and 4 chairs. Previously, 4-5 students shared a desk meant for two, and some students ended up sitting on the floor in the back of the classroom. This made for difficult learning.

2024 Kenya Classroom Furniture
TGUP has just finished construction of a new 28' x 28' classroom for the Mwiyogo School. Classroom furniture was also needed for the new classroom as well as to replace some of the broken desks/chairs. 2024 Kenya Playground
This is one of 9 projects that TGUP completed for the Mwiyogo School in Kenya. Local craftsmen built and installed 2 sets of slides, 2 set of seesaws, 2 sets of swings with 4 seats each, and 2 set of jungle bars. The children used to play in a dirt field and did not have any play equipment. Children need to play!

2024 Kenya Shoes Meru County
Over 1.5 billion people worldwide suffer from soil transmitted diseases, 600,000 in Kenya alone. Without shoes, children sometimes can't go to school. These 'shoes that grow' expand through 5 sizes, keep children healthy, and allow them to go to school. 100 pairs of shoes were given to the children at Lubuathirua Primary School.

2024 Tanzania Traditional Birth Attendants
This program provided funding for 120 Maasai Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA) to be trained in providing safe births. The multi-day sessions included training by a nurse/mid-wife educator. Each TBA was also given a safe birthing kit to bring home and is expected to attend at least 2 births per month in their villages.

2024 Multiple Countries Save a Girl January
Many schools in Africa and Asia were closed for the holidays until mid-January so not as many Save a Girl kits were distributed as typically are. Even with schools being closed, 1,848 kits were donated to girls, along with the accompanying education, in 3 countries (Kenya: 1,396, Cameroon: 152, and Tanzania: 300).

2024 Cameroon Science Lab in a Box
Bolifamba High School in Buea has 576 students but NO science lab. The students had to go to another school nearby to do experiments. Once TGUP offered the Science Lab in a Box, the school paid to renovate a room to use as a science lab.Then a SLaB was provided so now they have everything they need to succeed in science.

2024 Multiple Countries Soccer Equipment
Thanks to a generous donation of AYSO soccer clothing and equipment, almost 150 underserved children in Appalachia, 64 in Kenya, and 54 at a needy school in the Kabalagala slum in Uganda, were given soccer uniforms and practice equipment. In addition, 20 balls were given to 10 schools in Uganda and Kenya.

2024 Uganda Boys' Latrines
The boys' latrines at the Kyetume Primary school were demolished and new ones built over the existing pit, which was still in good condition. There are now 7 stalls with two entry/exit doors. The new building is made out of plastered brick. The girls' latrines were recently redone so this will be for the 190 boys and male staff.

2024 Kenya Water Main
TGUP recently installing gutters on all classrooms that drain into water tanks at the Mwiyogo School. To ensure a steady supply of water, connection to the city water needed to be completed. This project installed 100 meters of piping and connected them to two 5,000 liter water tanks. This was one of 9 projects at this school.

2024 Uganda Electricity
The Kaswa Primary school is a government-run school with 294 students (108 girls and 186 boys) and 8 teachers. This project installed electricity for the entire school (there was not any electricity previously). When it is late in the day or cloudy, it was hard for the students to read and see the chalkboard.

Balita Lwogi Primary School is an integrated school for children with special needs. The school has 626 pupils, 45 of whom have special needs. They have kindergarten to 7th grade with 9 teachers. One of the teachers is blind and is in charge of the pupils with special needs. This project installed electricity to the school.

2024 Kenya Jikos
TGUP built a new kitchen for the Mwiyogo School (one of 9 projects). Previously, the meals were cooked over an open flame in a wooden shed. This project installed two double chamber jikos (cooking vats) in the new kitchen. This will allow for multiple items to be cooked simulatanously (maize, beans, etc.) for their midday meal.

2024 Kenya Shoes
More than 600,000 children in Kenya do not have shoes or wear shoes that do not fit. Their feet are often injured, making them vulnerable to diseases and parasites. This project funded 130 pairs of 'shoes that grow', which are made from sturdy rubber and are adjustable to 5 sizes so the children can wear the same pair for years.

2024 Kenya Electricity
Most of the classrooms at the Mwiyogo Primary School didn't have electricity and those that did had wiring that was so old that it was dangerous. We installed new electrical lines for the entire school, including outdoor security lights, and power to the new kitchen. Students can now read indoors even when cloudy outside.

2024 Kenya Gutters and Tanks
This project installed gutters on all 6 classrooms, funded one additional 5,000 liter water tank, and connected all the gutters to the school's 5 tanks. The gutters drain into the tanks, which were placed on cement foundation slabs. This, along with the connection to the city water will ensure a steady water supply.

A new 30x15' kitchen was built at the Mwiyogo School. This project provided for roof gutters to be installed and connected to a 5,000 liter water tank. 2024 Kenya New Kitchen

2024 Kenya New Classroom
Mwiyogo Mixed Day Primary School is a public school that started with 5 pupils in 1966. Enrollment increased to more than 400 but because of the crumbling infrastructure, the school had to limit the number of students to 327. This project built a new 28'x28' classroom which will allow for additional students to enroll.

2023 Multiple Countries Donations
During TGUP's visit to Africa in September, circumstances arose that required immediate attention. Donations were made on the spot and included medical assistance to an orphanage in Uganda, first aid kits in Kenya, school supplies for a special needs school, and food supplements to those in need.

The Kangulumira Parents' School is a rural school run by the community. There are 150 students in a 4 room papyrus reed building (no latrines). The 308 children at ROSA Primary School did not have the necessary supplies to do their homework. 2023 Kenya Soap for Save a Girl
TGUP's very first sewing center, in Nyeri, has now produced and distributed over 50,000 Save a Girl kits. Each kit contains a bar of soap to ensure the kit is properly cared for. 2023 Kenya Science Lab Renovation
The two science rooms at the Kiamwathi Secondary School were in dire shape. 2023 Uganda Home Refurbishment
14yr old Angel is severely mentally and physically disabled after having untreated malaria when she was 7. Her mother abandoned her so her grandmother cares for her. They lived outside under a tarp as their one room home had holes in the walls and roof. We renovated the building so now they have a safe and comfortable place.

2023 Uganda Hygiene Kits
Many children in Uganda have never had any of their own hygiene supplies and end up sharing toothbrushes, etc. This provided 150 kits given to school children in Uganda. Each kit contains a toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, nail clippers, soap, wash cloth, and tube of vaseline. All the items are contained in a mesh carrying bag.

2023 Kenya Clay stoves
This project provided 200 energy efficient clay stoves to Kenyan families. Wood that used to only last 8 hours will now last one full week. This cuts down the time needed to collecting wood to 1/20th of what it was, many fewer trees will be cut down, and the air in the homes will be much cleaner. Each family received two stoves.

The Takshishila Academy, located in Kathmandu, holds classes from nursery school to high school. They offer programs in science, management, and humanities. 2023 Kenya Save a Girl Nyeri 23
The Nyeri Sewing Center has made over 50,000 kits since opening in 2007. They recently moved to a larger facility and hired more seamstresses. This allowed them to produce more than 14,000 kits in 2023, of which 3,263 were donated in Nyeri county. They have also started making other items to sell in the local markets.

2023 Tanzania Desks and Chairs
Humanity for Children, TGUP's partner in Tanzania, just finished building a classroom for Oltepeleki School, near Loibor-Siret. A latrine and water catchment system were also added. The school now has a total of 2 classrooms. This project funded 35 desks and chairs. Prior to this, the children sat on branches on the dirt floor.

2023 Tanzania Stoves: Phase 5
This project funded 30 smoke-reducing stoves for Maasai homes. The stoves are connected to a chimney to expel the smoke. Maasai women cook with an open fire in the middle of an unventilated hut made of sticks and mud. This is dangerous and extremely unhealthy. Many children die from lung problems due to inhaling the smoke.

Muranga county in Kenya has more than 50% unemployment. Many families do not have the money to pay for sanitary supplies for their daughters so they end up staying home from school when they have their period. 2023 India Software for Blind Students
Two schools (Jagriti and Zende Patil) in Pune, received a new innovative technology solution called "Talking Map". These schools cater to underprivileged and orphans and the visually impaired. This 3D technology and "Talking Pen" helps learn by touch, feel, and sound. The schools also receive instruction and follow-up support.

2023 Kenya Save a Girl Laikipia 23
In 2023, kits were distributed to 6,955 girls in the county of Laikipia at 44 different primary and secondary schools. These girls now have a better chance in life since the kits provide them with sanitary supplies they need to stay in school. Pregnancies are down by 93% at the schools where they receive kits.

2023 Kenya Save a Girl Kirinyaga 23
TGUP's first sewing center in Kenya opened in 2017. This center has sewn over 50,000 kits and helped open two other sewing centers - one in Uganda and one in Tanzania. Global Vision English Boarding School was opened in 2004 and has 700+ students and 23 teachers. There was no potable water at school so the students had to bring water from home or go without. Bhupu Sainik English Boarding School has 400 students from nursery school to 12th grade. The school had a large courtyard but no play equipment at all for the younger children. The sewing center in Dang, Nepal, started with 3 machines. Now they have 19 and have trained more than 200 women to sew. In 2023, they distributed 2,550 kits in 17 different schools. Sheridan Elementary School is in a rural area near Sacramento, California. The school has a high percentage of students for whom English is a second language. The entire school receives federally-funded lunches. TGUP funded new books and a bookshelf for the library since they do not receive any funding at all for the library.

This is the second year that the TGUP sewing center in Tanzania has been making kits. This year, they produced 1,694 kits and distributed them to 26 primary and secondary schools. 2023 Guatemala Playground
TGUP's NGO partner in Guatemala, Seeds of Learning, has constructed two new classrooms for the Nuevo Eden School but the 146 students needed a playground. The children only had an open dirt field to play in, which was difficult during the 9 month wet season. We put in a new playground with a slide, monkey bars, and swings.

2023 Kenya Food for Students
With our Kenyan partner we donated 5 week's worth of food supplies for Rurichu Primary School's 171 students, many of whom go to school hungry. 2023 Uganda Sewing Center Generator
TGUP recently opened a new sewing center in Nsawo, Uganda. The building has solar power but it is insuffiient to provide enough electricity for the sewing machines during the frequent periods of power outages. 2023 Nepal Playground
Sarva Santi Secondary School is in Chitwan, in the south of Nepal near the border with India. The school was established in 2007 and runs from pre-K through 12th grade. There are 1,074 students with 30 teaching staff and 7 supporting staff. The students did not have any play equipment. The community covered 60% of the cost.

2023 Multiple Countries Soccer
AYSO donated 400 soccer shirts, plus shorts, socks, cleats, sports bags, shin guards, and more than 50 soccer balls. 2023 Tanzania Stoves: Phase 4
Traditionally, Maasai women cook with an open fire in an unventilated hut made of sticks and mud. This is not only dangerous but unhealthy. 25 children per 1,000 die before the age of 5 from lung problems. We funded 60 low-smoke ventilated stoves for Maasai homes. The stoves are insulated and the chimneys expel the smoke.

2012 Nepal Birthing Center
High up in the Himalayas, Dolpa can only be reached on foot (11 days hiking from the nearest road). The community has about 1,200 births a year but had no maternal health services available. Now that the Dho Birthing Center has been completed, they now have basic obstetric care in a clean, warm, and safe environment.

2012 South Africa Upgrade
We renovated the preschool and installed monkey bars and a jungle gym with slide, fireman's pole and drum. These are the first gross motor skills structures the students have ever had. The staff were recently trained in best practices for preschool teaching and are excited to now have the environment to best teach the children.

2012 South Africa Upgrade
Working with our South African partners, we painted walls, tables, chairs and other furniture, and created educational posters. We then painted murals on the inside and outside walls and installed hangers for backpacks. This created an ideal environment for the recently qualified teachers to work at Thato Preschool and Daycare.

2012 Multiple Countries Educational Toys
Students at three California schools collected 500 pounds of LEGOs. School-sized sets of the LEGOs were sent to TGUP-supported schools in Mexico, Nicaragua, Haiti, Malawi, and South Africa. The children love them because they are fun, and the teachers love them because they promote the students' creativity and fine motor skills.

2012 Yucatan Books
We sent 500 new library-grade Spanish language books to the Proyecto Itzaes literacy cooperative in Yucatan, Mexico. The 6,500 people in the area only spoke Toltec so were very limited in their work and trading options. Thanks to the Latino Student Union at Los Altos High they can now read and speak both Toltec and Spanish.

2011 Malawi Teacher's Scholarship
Eliza Milenya wanted to study at the Malawi National Teacher's College so she could teach at the school where we have funded classrooms. When the teachers at a school in Los Altos, CA, heard that it would only take $5 from each of them to fund Eliza's scholarship, they immediately donated. She is now teaching at Manyesa School.

2011 Nicaragua Classroom
We built a 2-room brick school in Montegrande, in the Matagalpa mountains of Nicaragua. It replaced a wooden coffee bean storage shed that had been their only classroom, and wasn't available during the coffee harvest season. Sixteen of our volunteer students traveled to Nicaragua to help with the construction.

2011 Nicaragua Classroom
Located on a coffee plantation, Santa Isabel School held all their classes in an old wooden coffee storage building. However, it was needed for storage during the harvest season, so there could be no school at that time of the year. 2011 Kenya Classroom
Gakawa School is in a very poor area near Nanyuki in Central Kenya, where the community survives on subsistence farming. The old buildings were made of wood and corrugated metal, and leaked when it rained. We built a weather-proof computer lab so students can become computer literate, connect with the world, and get better jobs.

2010 Indonesia School
We renovated a crumbling school, that had open-sided classrooms, in the Indonesian village of Manikaji on the east side of the island of Bali.The school now has proper classrooms with large windows, and provides a good learning environment in all weathers. 2010 Haiti Water
Students at 18 high schools in Silicon Valley raised $20,000, following the earthquake in 2010, to support the 500 students at SOPUDEP School in Haiti, most of whom are orphans. We built a water cistern and purchased essential, and urgently needed supplies, including tents, medical equipment, generators, pots and pans, and food.

2010 Malawi Classrooms
We helped fund construction of the two new classrooms requested by the Manyesa Village School. To keep the cost down, we purchased the supplies needed for the roof, windows and doors, and provided the materials and brick moulds for the village’s families to hand make the 160,000 bricks needed to build classroom walls.

2009 Nicaragua Classroom
San Martin School in Matagalpa had 150 students from preschool to 6th grade. However, they only had two old classrooms, both made of wood planks and corrugated metal. One had been divided into two by a plastic sheet to provide a "third classroom" space. We built a large, bright, classroom that will last for many years.

2009 Kenya Latrines
Kiini Secondary School did not have its own latrines so they had been using the facilities of a local church. This was causing conflict between the school and the church, and the students lost valuable learning time going between the buildings. We built a set of three latrines at the school for the 151 students and staff.

2009 Kenya Classroom
Mureru School's 207 students are among the poorest in the country. The 45 freshmen had been learning in a room with porous timber walls and a dirt floor. We built a large cut-stone classroom and provided individual desks. The new learning environment has given the students a great boost in morale and hope for the future!

Ngenia School, near the base of Mt. Kenya in central Kenya, has a population of 308 students. They had no high school classroom and were using an old wooden barn. We built them a new classroom of cut stone with large windows. It is bright, has lights for cloudly days, and every high school student now has their own desk.

2009 Indonesia School
The Bunga village school and community learning center was dilapidated, falling down, and unable to be used. The 3,000 families in the area live in single-room bamboo huts with dirt floors and are almost 100% illiterate. Since the rebuild, students in grades one to six now attend school and the adults have classes on an evening.

2008 Kenya Calculators
Students at high schools in the San Francisco Bay Area collected 350 used, but still working, solar calculators and sent them to students at schools in the Nanyuki area of Central Kenya, so that they could learn Algebra. We are not sure who was more thrilled — the American donating students or the Kenyan recipients.

2008 Malawi Shoes
We sent 250 pairs of children's tennis shoes to the village of Manyesa, in Malawi. Malawi is the fourth-poorest country in the world and most of the recipients had never had a pair of shoes. One of the first things they did was to play a soccer game with the children from another village. They won the game. Was it the shoes?

This year the drive was organized by The Global Uplift Project Club's students at the school, and they collected more than 30,000 pounds of food (the most ever) for the San Jose based food bank!

2008 China Assistance
The Asian Student Union at Los Altos High School, and the Latino Student Unions at Los Altos and Mountain View worked together and raised $3,000 to help victims of the devastating 2008 China earthquake. The fundraiser was done as soon as the students heard about the earthquake. All proceeds were donated to the China Red Cross.

We bought 20 piglets and goats to save 20 Nepalese girls from being sold into slavery. The families will raise the animals for a year, on kitchen scraps, and then sell them. 2008 Kenya Nutrition
The children at the orphanage in Nanyuki were well cared for, but needed protein and calcium in their diet. We bought 2 milk cows for them. The cows will produce milk for eight years and have been bred so the cycle can continue indefinitely. The 120 orphans now have a balanced diet with milk every day for $2 per child per year!

We collected and sent 452 bicycles to Kenya and Botswana to help students get to school. Our “Wheels of Wonder” bicycle donation drive was carried out with Bay Area Kiwanis and Key Clubs. The recipients were trained on how to do basic repairs such as replacing chains and repairing punctures, and given the tools and materials.

2007 Kenya Classroom
A new 25’ x 25’ stone classroom was built at Naro Moru Mixed Day School in Naro Moru. The classroom improved the school’s ability to serve the poorest students in the district. From this small start the school has grown in size and reputation, and is now known to be the best school in the area, with 625 student in 22 classrooms.
