Kenya, 2007, Education

Project #1 of 403

A new 25’ x 25’ stone classroom was built at Naro Moru Mixed Day School in Naro Moru. The classroom improved the school’s ability to serve the poorest students in the district. From this small start the school has grown in size and reputation, and is now known to be the best school in the area, with 625 student in 22 classrooms.

6 - Kiini Secondary School: Latrines

Kenya, 2009, Sanitation

Project #14 of 403

Kiini Secondary School did not have its own latrines so they had been using the facilities of a local church. This was causing conflict between the school and the church, and the students lost valuable learning time going between the buildings. We built a set of three latrines at the school for the 151 students and staff.

Kenya, 2024, Water

Project #380 of 403

This project installed gutters on all 6 classrooms, funded one additional 5,000 liter water tank, and connected all the gutters to the school's 5 tanks. The gutters drain into the tanks, which were placed on cement slabs. This, along with the connection to the city water (another project) will ensure a steady water supply.

125 - Mwiyogo School: Electricity

Kenya, 2024, Infrastructure

Project #381 of 403

Most of the classrooms at the Mwiyogo Primary School didn't have electricity and those that did had wiring that was so old that it was dangerous. We installed new electrical lines for the entire school, including outdoor security lights, and power to the new kitchen. Students can now read indoors even when cloudy outside.

126 - Mwiyogo and Kaihuko: Shoes

Kenya, 2024, Health

Project #382 of 403

More than 600,000 children in Kenya do not have shoes or wear shoes that do not fit. Their feet are often injured, making them vulnerable to diseases and parasites. This project funded 130 pairs of 'shoes that grow', which are made from sturdy rubber and are adjustable to 5 sizes so the children can wear the same pair for years.

127 - Mwiyogo School: Jikos

Kenya, 2024, Infrastructure

Project #383 of 403

TGUP built a new kitchen for the Mwiyogo School (one of 9 projects). Previously, the meals were cooked over an open flame in a wooden shed. This project installed two double chamber jikos (cooking vats) in the new kitchen. This will allow for multiple items to be cooked simulatanously (maize, beans, etc.) for their midday meal.

129 - Lubuathirua Primary: Shoes Meru County

Kenya, 2024, Health

Project #392 of 403

Over 1.5 billion people worldwide suffer from soil transmitted diseases, 600,000 in Kenya alone. Without shoes, children sometimes can't go to school as the walk is too difficult on their feet. These 'shoes that grow' can expand through 5 sizes, keep children healthy, and allow them to go to school. Each pair costs only $25. This project provided for 100 pairs of schools for the children at Lubuathirua Primary School in Kenya.
