TGUP: Completed Projects in 2014
9 Completed Projects in 2014

1 - Guadalupe Arriba: Classroom

Nicaragua, 2014, Education

Project #45 of 403

We built two classrooms in this low-income community of about 400 families in the Matagalpa mountains. TGUP student volunteers helped with the building work. The new classrooms are bright and welcoming and all the children can go to school at the same time, and stay all day, instead of attending in shifts as they had to before.

Project #46 of 403

We renovated and upgraded a health post into a fully staffed and provisioned birthing center where basic pre-natal and emergency obstetric care can be provided. Three midwives have been trained, and hired, by the government, so there is always someone on duty. The population in the area is 6,000 with about 250 babies a year.

5 - Manyesa Village School: Classrooms

Malawi, 2014, Education

Project #49 of 403

The community asked us to build 2 more classrooms for Manyesa Village School which serves 1,200 children. As they did when we built classrooms with them in 2010, the local residents contributed labor, and they made another 160,000 bricks using the moulds and materials we supplied. We have now added 4 classrooms to this school.

7 - Bright Life Preschool: Upgrade

South Africa, 2014, Education

Project #51 of 403

One of the rooms at Bright Life Daycare was very dark and uninviting. The owner wanted it to be light and welcoming so we cut two openings and installed windows. We then renovated the inside and outside of the building and provided the center with child-sized tables and chairs, as well as fun educational supplies.
