1 - 15 de Septiembre School: Classrooms

This school in Matagalpa has 475 students. In 2016 we built two classrooms, toilets and a kitchen. This year we built another two classrooms and performed other repairs. The goal is to make it an approved "Model School".

2 - Heavenly Preschool: Upgrade

We completely renovated 3 preschool rooms including repairing, painting and decorating interior and exterior walls. We installed a jungle gym and donated educational toys, books and tables and chairs.

3 - Jack and Jill Preschool: Upgrade

The interior and exterior walls were prepped and painted, then decorated with shapes and numbers. A climbing frame, children's tables and chairs, and a teacher's desk were installed, as well as a hanging rack for backpacks.

4 - Putfontein School: Upgrade

We converted a storage room into a Pre-K classroom and built a multi-part balancing structure. A large wall mural was painted and the walkway to the Pre-K room was painted with lots of games to encourage gross motor play.

5 - Ngungu School: Boys' Latrines

We built 4 pit latrines and 2 urinals at Ngungu School in Kirinyaga. The latrines were collapsing, unsanitary and unsafe. Many of the students were no longer attending school due to the lack of toilet facilities.

6 - Reya Gona: Disabled Care Center

We built a care facility for physically disabled children. The facility will provide a safe place for the children, and also offer physical therapy, occupational therapy and educational training to children and their parents.

7 - Bright Star School: Staircase

The stairs at the Mwea Bright Star School were dangerous and falling down, risking injury to both students and staff. TGUP funded the building of a new staircase.

8 - Save a Girl 2017S: Save a Girl SA 17

We gave health education and reusable sanitary supplies to 200 girls in Tembisa. They can now attend school every week and reach their educational potential. Without the kits most would have dropped out of school.

9 - Save a Girl 2017K: First Distribution

Working with our partner KISI we distributed 250 washable sanitary kits to girls in the Nyeri and Jikaze Districts. They will enable the girls to complete high school, and so avoid becoming second class citizens.

10 - Bali Phase 2: Latrines

We built another 23 engineered latrines throughout Ban to help insulate the water supply from human waste. The units cost $250 each and will last for 25 years. The labor was contributed by local residents.

We gave health education and reusable sanitary supplies to 300 girls in Nepal. Without them, many would have had to drop out of school and get married, perform low paying jobs or been sold into the sex trade.

12 - Community Center: Laptops

Project #93 of 403

Los Altos High School donated 15 laptops which are being used to teach computer skills at the community center in the Tembisa township. Without these skills the people remain consigned to manual labor work.
