1 - Disaster Relief: Sewing Center Repairs

40 seamstresses work at our sewing center in Dang. The center was damaged when heavy rains caused the collapse of a partially built wall at an adjacent construction site. The falling masonry damaged the sewing center roof and 3 sewing machines. This project paid to have the wall repaired so the seamstesses could go back to work

2 - Favelinha: Playground

TGUP partnered with Community in Action to clear an open space and install a playground in an impoverished favela community where no recreational areas for children existed. Many ended up playing in hazardous areas such as dumps and sewers. The community of 2000+ is one of the poorest in the Rio area.

3 - Health Clinic: Covered Shelter

Partnering with the Little Sisters Fund, TGUP built a covered shelter for this health center, which provides a full range of medical services to over 9,000 people in surrounding area. Currently patients have to wait outside exposed to extreme weather conditions: it is frequently either very hot and sunny or raining and muddy.

4 - Save a Girl 2021 - Laikipia County: Save a Girl Laikipia 21

TGUP funded 386 kits and gave them to girls at DEB Solio Secondary School in Laikipia. These kits give the girls the supplies they need so they don't drop out of school. The kits were made at in Nyeri and deilvered to the girls, along with education on the use of the kits, self-defense, and menstrual health.

5 - La Quebradita School: Classroom

La Quebradita school consisted of one old metal shipping container. All ages were together, and attendance was limited due to the small space. It was very hot in the summer and difficult for the students to study, in the metal container. All of the children of the village will be able to go to classes in the large new classroom.

6 - Bonyoh Hamlet: Latrines

We funded 6 latrines for the families in the Bonyoh hamlet in Bali. There are a total of 37 families in the hamlet, none of which has a toilet, and still practice open defecation in the bush. Each latrine costs less than $300 and will help insulate the water supply from E.coli, preventing sickness and even death.

Githage Secondary School had one very old building with 5 rooms for the current enrollment of 118 students. There are many more students that would like to attend but enrollment had to be limited due to the crumbling facilities. We built a new classroom that will allow more of the local students to attend high school.

8 - Barahachhetra School: Water Purification

The 593 students, staff and community of the Barahachhetra Secondary School did not have access to any potable water. The existing untreated water was causing illness including cholera, dysentery and other bacterial diseases. We installed a water purification system and 1,000 liter tank to provide safe, clean drinking water.

9 - San Antonio School: Classroom

The children from San Antonio village attended school in the neighboring village of Santa Martha. 2 years ago, a fast highway was constructed, and it became too dangerous to walk to school. The parents built a makeshift classroom with plastic walls, and dreamed of having a real school. They now have a beautiful new school.

10 - Save a Girl: Soap

Working with our partner Eco-Soap Bank, 5,000 bars of soap were delivered to TGUP's sewing center in Nyeri, Kenya, and 4,000 were sent to the sewing center in Dang, Nepal. The soap will be included with TGUP's Save a Girl kits.

11 - High Schools: 6 Microscopes

Microscopes were donated to 3 Kenyan high schools. The National Science Exams include microscope use, and must be passed to go on to higher education, but these schools had never had a microscope to use in their science classes and the students didn't know how to use the one that was loaned to them for the exam.

Portable microscopes were recently delivered to 3 schools in Appalachia. They will be used to examine specimens such as those they find in the French Broad River which contains plants and animals not found elsewhere. LHA, an underserved school in Stockton, CA, was also given microscopes donated to us by a Silicon Valley company.

13 - Manikaji School: Covid Support

Manikaji on the east side of the island of Bali. was in dire need of support due to Covid restrictions. To keep educating the students, teachers are making home visits. we provided funds for educational supplies, transportation costs for the teachers to visit the students' homes, food supplements and teacher salaries.

14 - Githage School: Latrines

The girls’ latrines at Githage Secondary School were almost full and in danger of collapse. They were unsafe and unsanitary and because there were only two stalls, the girls had to wait in line, frequently missing class time. We built a new girls' latrine block with 4 private stalls and a hand washing station.

The Githage Primary and Secondary Schools share a playing field but didn’t have any playground structures. In fact, they had never seen playground equipment! While the swings, slide, seesaw and climbing bars were being installed the children were intrigued — but they quickly worked out how to enjoy their new playground.

In the past, the students and staff at Githage School had to walk to a nearby church with jugs to get water. This project installed gutters on a new classroom building to catch rainwater that will be stored in a 5,000 liter tank relieving the school's dependence on other sources for water.

The classrooms at Githage Secondary School were so dark that on cloudy days, the students and teachers had a hard team reading or seeing the board. Electricity was installed in all the classrooms, the principal's office, the kitchen and dining area. Security lights were also installed outside.

18 - La Quebradita School: Latrines

We installed two new latrines to replace the collapsed ones at La Quebradita School. This completed the upgrades to the school. The community helped by providing the labor. The teachers, parents and children are thrilled with the classroom, playground, water well and latrines.

TGUP, working with Rotary, provided intellectual materials and funds to help with the setup of a sewing center. This included $500 to purchase initial fabrics, the TGUP SaG Kit Assembly Manual, and economic analysis assistance.

20 - Kanjuu Secondary School: Cooking Jikos

We purchased and installated of two cooking jikos for the new kitchen at Kanjuu Secondary School. The kitchen is part of a larger campaign at the school where TGUP, in partnership with Kiini Sustainable Initiative, will also build a new classroom, refurbish a science lab, and install electricity throughout the entire school.

21 - Githage School: Girls' Sports Field

The only sports facility at Githage Secondary School was a soccer field. The boys play soccer but there were no options for the girls for physical activity. This project installed a volleyball court, and a netball court, provided balls and team vests, and supplied sports shoes and shorts for all of the girls.

22 - Soccer Cleats: School Sports

The boys at Githage School in Central Kenya love to play soccer but, until recently, they had no cleats. Now that the teams have proper footwear, they are excited to be able to play without fear of their feet being injured by an opposing player and the 30 pairs of cleats have taken their skills to a whole new level.

23 - Luz de Cristo: Classroom

CalNevHa Division 12 Kiwanis clubs built a classroom for the village of Luz de Cristo in Nicaragua. The village has 45 children in K-6 now going to school on the porch of another building. The new classroom is 660 square feet, with steel frame on a concrete foundation. Locals contributed 20% of the cost through in-kind labor.

25 - Kanjuu Kitchen: Water Catchment System

This project added gutters to the new kitchen that TGUP just completed for the Kanjuu Secondary School. The gutters will drain water into a new 5,000 liter water tank. These will allow the kitchen to have running water rather than having to fetch water from a local source.

26 - Save a Girl 2021U: Associate Sewing Center

Multiple Rotary Clubs donated to help the establishment of a sewing center in Kumi, Uganda. TGUP assisted with $500 to purchase a sewing serger and $500 for an initial order of fabric. We also provided TGUP's SaG Kit Assembly Manual, economic expertise, videos, and other tools to guide in the setup.

27 - Gaciongo Mixed Day School: Latrines

TGUP built 4 pit latrines for the 139 students and 10 teachers at the Gaciongo Mixed Day Secondary School in rural Kirinyaga. The existing latrines were at risk of collapse, unsafe, and unsanitary. The school also needed a new classroom, kitchen and playground. Enrollment is expected to increase with the new facilities.

Brevard Rotary Club in Brevard, North Carolina, funded 50 Save a Girl kits for girls supported by the Isaac Homes Center. The club also bought a washing machine and dryer for the group. TGUP's Save a Girl educational materials were used to provide information on female biology, feminine hygiene, and how to look after their kits.

29 - Kiangi Primary School: Latrines

TGUP, in partnership with Kiini Sustainable Initiative, built a block of latrines with 4 stalls and a urinal for the students at Kiangi Primary School in Mathira, Nyeri county. It currently has 13 teaching staff and 220 students. There are 8 classrooms but 5 have been condemned, so two grades are taught offsite.

30 - Kihuyo Secondary School: Kitchen

TGUP renovated the kitchen at the Kihuyo Mixed Day Secondary School. The kitchen was so run-down that it was difficult to provide the 170 students and staff with safe and nutritious meals. The 'jikos' cooking vats were broken and rusted. This project repaired the jikos, chimney, roof, flooring, sinks, windows, and doors.

31 - Covid: Masks and Soap: Little Sisters' Families

The Covid situation in Nepal was dire, and the cost of healthcare was beyond the means of the families supported by our partner, the Little Sisters Fund. Working with LSF we distributed masks and soap to 1,000 families. Every family member received a mask and a large bar of soap, and each Little Sister received a second mask.

32 - Maasai Mara High School: Library

Working with OliveSeed Foundation and their partner in Kenya, TGUP helped fund the installation of a library for the Maasai Mara High School in the village of Aitong. This all-boys school has 295 students and 12 staff but no library. The school population is expected to double in the next few years.

33 - Kiandai Secondary School: Latrines

TGUP, in partnership with Kiini Sustainable Initiative, built 4 latrines for the 107 students and 10 teachers at the Kiandai Mixed Day Secondary School in Kirinyaga. The number of students is expected to increase by 50% over the next few years. The latrines were leaking and labeled a hazard by the county health authorities.

34 - Sports: Soccer Supplies

The American Youth Soccer Association donated more than 500 new shirts, 100 shorts, 100 pairs of socks, balls, sports bags, gloves, shin guards, and other equipment. All of this was sent to the Ivory Coast for distribution among the school children who typically do not have any sports equipment or clothing.

35 - Nyeri Sewing Center: Covid Masks 2021

TGUP’s sewing centers in Nyeri, Kenya produced and distributed more than 50,000 masks in 2021. All were donated, free of charge, to those in need including students, families in slums, medical workers, and local youth groups. 36 - Aadarsha School: Science Lab Build-out

Aadarsha is a large secondary school with 1,800 students in grades 1-12. They had a rundown science room but no equipment, so the students had no way to practice the theoretical science they were learning. TGUP and the local community helped fund the build-out of the lab, including installing new work tables, cabinets, etc.

Working with the Gorongosa National Park's Girls' Club program, TGUP provided the expertise needed to set up a sewing center. 94 percent of girls in Mozambique enroll in primary school, but only 11 percent continue to secondary school. It is our hope that the Save a Girl kits will help girls stay in school.

38 - Ban Village: Earthquake Relief

On October 16, 2021, a 4.8 earthquake struck East Bali and completely destroyed 363 houses, and partially damaged close to 1,000 more houses and temples. TGUP funded the construction of four A-frame semi-permanent bamboo structures to house families whose homes were destroyed.

41 - Aadarsha Saula School: Science Lab

TGUP equipped the lab Aadarsha Saula Secondary School with science materials. The school has over 1,800 students in grades 1-12 with 115 teaching staff. The national science curriculum is taught to students in grades 9-12 but they could not compete to go on to higher education because they did not have a properly equipped lab.

TGUP funded a set of 4 latrines and one urinal for the 170 students and 10 teachers at Kihuyo Mixed Day Secondary School. This project provided two private latrines for boys and two for girls, along with a sink for washing. The latrines will also be used by the teachers and staff, whose latrines were close to collapse.

Working with the Los Altos Rotary Club, TGUP produced 400 SaG kits at our sewing center in Dang, Nepal, to be shipped to Dharamshala, India. There, the local Rotary club is donating the kits to girls they have identified as at risk of dropping out of school due to lack of sanitary supplies.

Working with Community Initiatives for Rural Development, TGUP funded four 3,000-liter water tanks in Meru. Each tank includes a roof water catchment system. The community often has erratic and unpredictable rainfall so these tanks allow for a steady supply of water. For every 3 funded, the community contributes a 4th one.

721 Save a Girl kits were donated to girls at 4 schools in Kirinyaga county. The girls were at the primary and secondary schools of Kiandai and Gaciongo. Research shows that almost 100% of the girls in this county miss days of school during their period due to lack of supplies.

More than 6,500 SaG kits were distributed in Nyeri County to girls at 23 different schools. Not long ago, a girl committed suicide because she had 'accident' at school. She was 'period-shamed'. TGUP is doing everything possible to prevent this by providing washable, reusable sanitary supplies to girls, always free of charge.
