1 - Ngungu Secondary School: Electricity

The school had electricity installed but only to two rooms. This project provided for power to be connected for the remaining 8 classrooms, staffroom, and security lights in the exterior hallways. This was the final requirement needed prior to TGUP's Science Lab in a Box being installed.

2 - Pavão Pavãozinho: Playground

Above Rio de Janeiro, more than 1.5 million people (24% of the population of Rio) live in favelas (slums). The residents of Pavãozinho community had nowhere to gather and the children had no place to play. We installed a playground structure surrounded by a garden, a BBQ, and benches.

3 - Bhawani School: Assembly Stage

TGUP, in partnership with the Little Sisters Fund, helped fund the construction of a 26'x18' stage (468 sq ft). The school had a large open yard but no place for the students or staff to gather. The school has over 1,000 students in grades 1-12 with 40 dedicated teaching staff.

4 - Luz de Cristo: Classroom Resources

5 - Kiahuko Primary School: Water Catchment System

This is the second of 8 projects to renovate the Kiahuko Primary School. The school has four 5,000-liter water tanks that were not being used because they did not have access to any water. The four tanks were placed on cement slabs and then connected to water sources - both gutters on rooftops as well as city water pipes.

6 - Kanjuu Secondary School: Science Lab Renovation

This project provided 3 locking cupboards and 30 shelves for the science lab at Kanjuu Secondary School. Now that the room is prepared, TGUP will install its first ever Science Lab in a Box (SLaB) in Kenya, which will provide all the materials, supplies, and equipment needed to teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

7 - Barahachhetra School: Playground

Barahachhetra School in Badachaur, Nepal, had 593 students but only old, rusted, and unsafe playground equipment. We installed new slides, swings, and a sand volleyball court. The Nepal Women Community Service Center and the local community contributed 20% of the cost.

8 - Luz de Cristo: Playground

TGUP built a new classroom for the rural community of Luz de Cristo, outside of Tipitapa, Managua. The school did not have any playground or area for the children outside of class. This project installed a playground with three structures: a slide, swings with 4 seats and monkey bars.

9 - Luz de Cristo: Solar Power

Solar panels were installed on both the existing school building as well as on the new classroom that TGUP just funded. This will allow the students and teachers to see during cloudy days and permit the villagers to use the buildings after school hours for community meetings, adult education, and vocational training.

10 - Mucagara Mixed Day Secondary: Latrines

The girls at Mucagara were often late getting back to class as they had to wait in line to use the 2 latrines. They sometimes skipped school altogether, leading to eventual dropout. TGUP built a set of 4 latrines exclusively for the girls and installed a sink with running water.

11 - Kanjuu Secondary School: Classroom

TGUP built a new classroom for the Kanjuu Secondary School. The school had 5 classrooms, all in need of repair, for the enrollment of 140 students, and was using outdoor picnic tables for the overflow students. Many students would like to attend but the Ministry of Education limited enrollment due to the crumbling facilities.

12 - Kanjuu Secondary School: Sports Field

Kanjuu Secondary School had no sports facilities. We built netball and volleyball courts and provided sports equipment and uniforms. This is one project of a whole school renovation that will also provide a new kitchen, a classroom, a science lab and electricity for the whole school.

13 - Kanjuu Water Harvesting: Gutters and Tank

This project added gutters and a 5,000 liter water tank to the classroom that TGUP just finished building at the Kanjuu Secondary School. This is a drought prone area so the school will now be able to capture and save rain water.

14 - Luz de Cristo: Water System

The Luz de Cristo community and school's only access to water was from a manually operated water pump connected to a well. This project installed a new 1,000 water tank on an elevated tower operated by a solar pump. The residents will now have easy access to water.

15 - Mwiyogo Primary School: Latrines

We built latrines with 4 stalls and one urinal at Mwiyogo Primary School. There are 12 teachers/staff and 327 students. The old latrines had collapsed, and the Ministry of Health had condemned them as unusable and unsafe. This was an emergency situation as the school was at risk of being shut down due to the lack of latrines.

16 - Stove and Solar Training: Maasai Women

Working with our Tanzanian partner, ten Maasai women were trained to be expert stove installers. In the weeks to follow, 100 homes received the smoke-removing stoves. For most of the women, this is the first paying job they have ever (or will ever) have. Their status within their families and the community is uplifted.

18 - San Antonio: Baking Center

TGUP built a community baking center containing a traditional baking kiln on a cement floor, covered by a steel canopy. This will be used by women in the community to bake traditional baked treats, both for their own families as well as to sell. We expect this to be a source of income for women to help support their families.

19 - Buddha Vision Academy: Water Filtration

The Buddha Vision Academy in Dhading has 300 students but had no access to clean drinking water. The students and staff frequently became sick from water borne illnesses. This project installed a new water filtration and storage system to provide clean water for drinking and school use.

20 - Kiahuko Primary School: Water Supply Installation

The Kiahuko Primary School was renovated with 8 different projects. The priority project was to bring in water. The Health authority threatened to close the school unless they brought in water. This project cut through the tarmac of the road to reach the main water source and then layed piping to four 5,000 liter water tanks.

21 - Aankura English Secondary School: Playground

TGUP helped fund a playground for the 423 students in grades 1-12 at the Aankura English Secondary Boarding School, in Dharamghar. The school had a large open yard but no play equipment at all. The new playground includes slides, swings, seesaw, and a merry-go-round. The school contributed 50% of the cost of the project.

Kiahuko school only had 4 latrines and they were full and close to collapse. This project provided two sets of latrines. One set will be for the use of girls and one for boys, which will also include a urinal. There are 454 students, and 12 staff, but enrollment is expected to increase dramatically in the coming year.

23 - Kiahuko Primary School: Electricity

The Kiahuko Primary School had electricity to only one staffroom. This project installed electricity throughout the entire school. This will allow for instruction even on cloudy days. This was part of a renovation of the entire school including a new classroom, kitchen, water, and latrines.

24 - Jubilant School: Science Lab in a Box

Jubilant High School is located in a busy Kathmandu district. TGUP installed the equipmemnt in the science lab so students can now practice Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and qualify to move on to university studies. 25 - Kiwanis Family House: Supplies

TGUP funded new mattresses, sheets, and pillows for the Kiwanis Family House (KFH). The goal of KWF is to build a supportive, healing community for families who are impacted by medical emergencies. The KFH is in Sacramento, California, and is available to people whose children are being treated by the UC Davis Medical Center.

26 - Bhim Ma Vi School: Computer Lab

The Bhim Ma Vi government school has 188 students in grades 1-10 with 15 teaching staff. The students couldn't continue their education due to ack of computer knowledge. This project funded 20 computers, 2 projectors, a smartboard, and a digital attendance system. The school and community contributed 93% of the project cost.

27 - Maasai Villages: Stoves: Phase 1

TGUP, with its partner in Tanzania, funded the installation of stoves and solar micro-grids to 16 homes in two different Maasai villages. This project placed vented chimney stoves into each home and installed a solar micro-grid on the rooftop of one home in each boma. The solar systems were put in place by trained Maasai women.

28 - Global Vision Boarding School: Playground

TGUP helped fund the construction and installation of playground equipment for the Global English Boarding School. The school population of 500 students is comprised of a mix of castes including ‘untouchables’. The school and community covered 60% of the cost of the playground. This playground was built in memory of Tom Chapman.

29 - Las Ruinas School: Kitchen

The existing kitchen for the Las Ruinas School was so run down that it was too dangerous to use. One of the two public elementary schools in the community, they were in urgent need of a kitchen to prepare food for the 198 students and 14 staff who receive government support providing one meal and one snack daily.

30 - Bangkukuk: School Renovation

The one-room school building for the Bangkukuk community was falling apart: the roof leaked, the windows broken, and there were holes in the rotted wood flooring. This is the only school in the area and is only by accessible boat. TGUP completely renovated the school building and put up a new fence to keep the livestock out.

31 - Las Ruinas School: Kitchen Equipment

TGUP built an entire new kitchen building to serve the Las Ruinas school. The old kitchen had fallen apart and was unsanitary, unsafe, and unusable. This add-on project provided the equipment needed for the new kitchen, including an industrial stove, refrigerator, water purifier and dispenser, pots/pans, microwave, etc.

32 - Miguel Angel Ortez Elementary School: Computer Lab

This project provided 15 used computers and 8 backup batteries for the computer lab. Besides allowing the 500+ students to be trained in computing, the lab will be a valuable resource for teachers to document their lessons plans and for students to use for job searches. 33 - Four New Sewing Centers: Vocation

The original TGUP sewing center that was opened in Dang, Nepal, has done so well that four new centers have been opened. This project funded 8 sewing machines and 4 sergers (overlock) machines. The new centers will train more than 200 women as seamstresses over the coming few months, giving them a life-long skill and employment.

34 - Meru Water Harvesting: Water Tanks

Nine 3,000-liter water tanks were funded for the Meru community. For every 3rd tank, the community contributes 1 tank so a total of 12 tanks were installed. Each water tank attaches to a roof catchment system. The community often has erratic and unpredictable rainfall so these tanks will allow for a steady supply of water.

35 - Maasai: Stoves: Phase 2

TGUP, in partnership with ICSEE, funded the installation of 100 stoves in homes in 12 different Maasai villages. Ten Maasai women were trained as expert installers. The vented chimney stoves prevent smoke inhalation and illness. 25 children per thousand die before the age of five of lung related ailments from inhaling smoke.

36 - Maasai: Solar Microgrids

This is 1 of 3 projects to support the Maasai in Tanzania. Funded separately, 10 Maasai women were trained to install clean burning stoves and solar microgrids. These microgrids provide electricity in the huts where the Maasai live. This allows for activities inside the huts after dark and protects livestock from predators.

Fourteen large sacks of clothes were donated to TGUP with the request that they be given to children in need. One of TGUP's partners works with families who live in Recreational Vehicles (RVs) as they cannot afford the high cost of renting. The Tigania County in Kenya are experiencing a drought for the past two years. Most families are peasant farmers who depend on rain to feed their plots. 40 - Soccer Uniforms: Girls' Camp

KSP works with boys and girls at the Karat School to give both boys and girls equal access to education. All the children at the school receive two meals a day. Sankhadevi School was established on 1965 and has 546 students supported by 26 staff members. The school had a large area used for assembly and play but didn't have any playground equipment. 45 - Nyeri Sewing Center: Enhancements

One week of advanced training was given to the seamstresses that have been making our Save a Girl kits at the sewing center in Nyeri. They were taught how to make school uniforms, security guard uniforms, PE clothes, dresses, and other items of clothing to sell. We also funded a zigzag machine that can make button holes.

The addition was made with brick walls, a cement floor, and flat plaster roof. The new classroom has 4 windows and one door and hosts the younger children.

This project funded a computer Braille system for the Jagriti School for Blind Girls in Pune, India. This a residential school for visually impaired girls with 100 girls pursuing education from 1st to 12th grades. Up to the 4th grade, the girls learn in Marathi Braille, which is the language of the state of Maharashtra.

The American Youth Soccer Organization of San Mateo, California offered uniforms (shorts, shirts, socks shin pads, kit bags, and cleats) for students, plus shirts for coaches and referees. They also donated balls, cones, and rope ladders. Everything was unused due to the pandemic. These were all donated through our NGO partner.

This project installed a new water filtration system for the Mahendra Bhawan Secondary Boarding School in the Kathmandu Valley. The school has 250 students, and 36 staff members. The current water system was so old that the water was unsafe and causing illness.

Thanks to MedShare, a 501c3 aid organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of people by directly delivering surplus medical supplies and equipment, TGUP was able to acquire a large inventory of supplies at no cost that will be sent to Tanzania. TGUP's partner used the supplies in their mobile medical clinic.

This project installed two 5,000-liter water tanks, one solar powered pump, a filtration system and three water faucets to provide clean, potable water for 100 Maasai families. The total cost of the project is $5,373. The system saves the women from many hours of walking to a distant river to collect water.

Shree Amar Jyoti Boarding School is located near the border with India. There are 409 students in grades Pre-K to 12 and the water quality was so poor that students and staff members could not drink it without becoming ill. We drilled a 150 foot borehole and installed filters and a storage tank to provide clean, potable water.

62 - Drought Tolerant Seeds: Small Farmers

The people in Meru county have harvested little in the last 3 planting seasions, and in the last season there was a total crop failure. Most people in this area depend purely on rain fed agriculture so a drought = no food or money. This project funded drought tolerant seeds in advance of the rainy season starting in November.

63 - Ngungu Science Lab: Stools

The newly renovated science lab at the Ngungu Secondary School has the equipment and supplies needed to conduct Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The students did not have any place to sit and had to stand during lectures and experiments so this project built 50 heavy-duty metal stools that will fit under the benches in the lab.

Srijana School has 1508 students in grades 1-12 but he lab did not have the necessary materials or equipment to teach the required experiments in the 3 sciences, so the students could not compete for university entrance. 65 - Food for Kenyan students: Maize and Beans

Kenya is in the midst of a prolonged and crippling drought and almost 1 in 3 children are suffering from acute malnutrition. This project funded food for 5,000 children (every 50 cents donated will feed a child one midday meal of githeri, which is a mixture of maize and beans). The meals were provided at school.

On June 25, 2022, 291 girls at the Gaitheri Secondary School in the county of Muranga, received Save a Girl kits, free of charge. These kits give the girls the supplies they need so they don't drop out of school. The girls also received education on the use of the kits, self-defense, and menstrual health.

Working with Humanity for Children and the local Women's Work Collective, TGUP funded the construction of a new 30'x30' building to house the Save a Girl sewing center that will make and distribute our washable, reusable sanitary kits to girls in Tanzania. The new building also has three storefronts for women-led businesses.

TGUP's main sewing center in Dang, distributed 1,000 kits free of charge to deserving girls at three different schools: Mahandra Secondary School in Banlachuli, the Sudha Secondary School in Banlachuli, and Jhinghni Secondary School. The center started with 3 machines and now has 19 machines with over 60 trained seamstresses.

In 2022, 16 beehives were installed throughout Central Kenya. Honey is harvested to support the maintenance of the hives as well as school operations and family farming. Previously installed hives have resulted in a 3-5x increase in farm production. These hives benefit crops of coffee, maize, vegetables, nuts, and fruit trees.
